Lash Extensions! The Dos, the Don'ts & the Myths!

Lash Extensions are very popular at the moment with celebrities from Kim K to Jennifer Lopez wearing them. Perfect if you don't want to do a long make up routine in the morning, just a little tinted moisturiser and your good to go. Then on the other hand if you love your glam these are ideal because you can go full on diva with a full face of make up and be red carpet ready in no time. So if your still not convinced then read on and learn the dos, don'ts and myths of lash extensions!

The Dos Do use oil free makeup removers. Do bush lashes daily with a spoolie (most good lash techs will supply you with this). Do wash your lashes.

The Don'ts Always remember the 24 hour rule! NO water, do not get lashes wet for 24 hours after getting them done. Avoid oil based make up products and waterproof mascara. Don't excessively touch you lashes. Don't brush lashes for 24 hours. Don't brush your lashes when wet,

The Myths You need to take a break form lash extensions! This is a myth! Eyelash extensions grow out with your natural lashes and at your refill appointment are taken off and replaced with new extensions. Natural lashes have a cycle of 60-90 days, loosing between 1-5 natural lashes a day, over this time you loose and gain new lashes.

Eye lash extensions make your lashes feel heavy! Myth! If your lash extensions are applied properly you should hardly feel them and they shouldn't feel heavy. The lash fibres are so thin they are almost weightless.

Lash extensions cause infection! Myth! Lash extensions do not cause infection, but not maintaining good after care can! Its very important that you follow the after care advice you receive from your lash tech, so that you can enjoy beautiful lashes without any complications!

You cant get eyelash extensions wet! Myth! Of course you can get you lash extensions wet, but just wait 24 hours after application. This is probably the biggest myth of all. Over the years lash adhesive has changes and now most of them are waterproof and oil proof. So swim in the sea care free!

Eye lash extension removal is painful! Myth! Removing your lash extensions should not be a painful experience. Your eyes are closed throughout the process. Your lash tech will talk you through what will happen before they start. The only time you might feel a slight discomfort is if some of the product gets in you eye. If this happens tell your lash tech and they will help you.

Strip Lashes Vs Lash Extensions Now this is the big debate! As a lash technician myself I get asked this a lot in the salon. So here my two cents on the matter!

Strip Lashes Ok so in my opinion strip lashes are great if you have a night out and you want a cheap and cheerful lash. They last about 6-7 hours before you have the dreaded lift on the inner corner! (come on ladies you know what I'm talking about, we have all had it!) so carrying a little bottle of lash glue is important. They can sometimes feel stiff on the eyelid and if they are not applied correctly can make one eye look bigger then the other. Having said that they are handy if you need a quick fix for a night out!

Lash Extensions Lash Extensions are the best option in my opinion, although they are more expensive they look and last much better then strip lashes. They look glam on nights out and you don't have to worry about them coming loose or lifting! With lash extensions you wake up with ready to go lashes, so not faffing around with glue in the mornings just up and go!

Caring for your Hands, Nails & Cuticles

Having well groomed hands and nails can make you look instantly polished and can even make hands appear younger! So what can I do to achieve this I hear you ask! Well lets start at the basics. We all wash our hands multiple times a day, now more then ever! So its worth investing in a good hand cream to replace the moisture that soap takes out. Most soaps strip your hands of their natural oils, so moisturising your hands after every hand wash is key. Hand creams that contain aloe or beeswax are ideal for healing chapped or dry hands, whilst hand creams that contain vitamin C or anti-oxidants will help brighten the skin and reduce dark spots.

healthy nails Pinkish-white nail plates. Smooth nail plate without ridges or grooves and a visible half-moon (lunula) at the base of the nail are all good signs.

Unhealthy nails Peeling/Splitting nails could be dryness or a vitamin deficiency. White spots on nails is usually a sign of nail biting. Red swollen skin around nails could be from removing or biting cuticles. Spoon shaped nails could be a sign of anemia or an iron deficiency.

Cuticle Care Keeping your cuticles healthy is very important, cuticles help prevent infection and seals the nail root to keep it safe from harm. Push back your cuticles with a cuticle pusher and remove dead cuticle from the nail plate but don't cut the cuticle, this can lead to bacteria and germs getting in! Use cuticle oil or cuticle butter daily, this helps keep your cuticles moisturised and healthy and will prevent cracking.

Have you always wanted to get the perfect beach wave, but don't know where to start? Well look no further because I'm going to give you the full run through of creating that perfect beach wave!

Before starting any of these styles always straighten you hair because this will give you a good base to start with. Use heat protector before putting any hot tools on you hair!

Straightening Iron Start with a texture spray because this will help get that beachy look and add grit. Then clamp the straightener on your hair at the roots, twist the straightener away from your face and pull it right down to the end of your hair. Do this throughout your whole head, then run your fingers through your hair to pull and separate the curls. Add some more texture spray to give the undone beachy look. That's it you have the perfect beach wave!

Heatless Curing Ribbon Thanks to tictok this trend as become huge! Its actually a great way to wave your hair without heat. Firstly part your hair down the middle, place the ribbon in the centre of your head, twist 2 inch sections of hair around the ribbon joining each section as you go. This will create one long twist. When you reach the end tie it off with hair bobbin to secure it. Repeat this on the other side of your head. Mist your hair with hair spray to give the waves better hold. Then wake up the next morning with fabulous beach waves!

Curling Wand Start with your heat spray and a spritz of hairspray! Wrap one inch sections of hair around the wand and curl away from you face leaving the ends free. Once you've curled the front of your hair alternate the directing of the curl throughout to create a messy beach wave. Spray with you favourite texture spray to finish! Then go and be your best beach babe self!

Never condition the roots as bonds will slip
Brush extensions from the bottom & work your way up to root
Always dry the roots fully, you can let the ends air dry

At The Beauty Room Monamolin we only use 100% human hair because we only want the best for our clients and in the long term is a lot more affordable as it lasts so much longer! Synthetic Hair does not allow heat styling and is usually unnaturally shiny. Synthetic hair will never move the way human hair would and it can knot much easier. It is cheaper then human hair but it wont last anywhere near as long!
